Silves,

Silves is a Portuguese city in the district of Faro, in the Algarve, is a municipality with 678.75 km area and 33 830 inhabitants (2001) subdivided into 8 districts. Silves is situated at the entrance of the Western Algarve, who arrives here from Lisbon, by the Serra do Algarve, between the mountains of Monchique and Caldeirão. Located in full barrocal, between mountains and sea, the town of Silves is irrigated by the Arade river, southwest from the Serra do Malhão in Barranco do Pé do Coelho which release his waters into the Atlantic Ocean.

Designated as tourist region of Silves the bounded area on the west of the Monchique and Portimão municipalities, the south of Lagoa municipality and Alcantarilha east, São Bartolomeu de Messines and North by São Marcos da Serra and Monchique county.

Economic activities: agriculture, trade, tourism, cork industry, parties and festivals: Medieval Festival (August) and religious festivals (near Easter).
